Mr. Vess graduated in the top one percent of his class and received his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, in 1988 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. While at Hastings, Mr. Vess served as an editor of the Hastings Law Review. He received several scholarships and awards at Hastings, including the Milton D. Green Top 10 Citation, and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Before law school, Mr. Vess graduated from San Diego’s Point Loma College with a major in History.

In 1988 to 1989, Mr. Vess served as a judicial clerk on the United States Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit, for the Honorable David B. Sentelle.

From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Vess was associated with San Diego’s Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Vess was a partner at Mazzarella, Dunwoody & Caldarelli in San Diego.

Mr. Vess has been invited to make presentations on the use of technology in the courtroom for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the American Inns of Court, and the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.

Mr. Vess has also lectured in state bar sponsored continuing education programs in San Diego and Orange Counties. His professional affiliations include the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and the Hastings Alumni Association.
